F1 hybrid field corn SSC 557

An F1 hybrid field corn bred for dry-grain yield, supplying the animal-feed industry.

  • CropField corn (Zea mays)
  • Seed typeF1 hybrid
  • Typical crop cycleAbout 95–110 days from sowing to grain harvest

Overview

SSC 557 is an F1 hybrid field corn in Zinbioseed's corn seed range. As an F1 hybrid it grows vigorously and uniformly, giving an even, dependable crop.

Field corn is grown for its dry grain, the main energy source in the animal-feed industry. High-yielding hybrids with sound stalks and good husk cover let growers harvest more grain per hectare, with less loss in the field.

Key features

  • Bred for dry-grain yield for the animal-feed market
  • Yellow-orange grain
  • F1 hybrid vigour: strong, uniform plants and consistent produce

Growing guide

  1. Land preparationPlough and harrow to a fine tilth, open drainage furrows and lime acidic soils before sowing.
  2. SowingSow 1–2 seeds per hill, 3–5 cm deep, into moist soil for an even stand of roughly 57,000–70,000 plants per hectare.
  3. FertiliserApply manure and phosphorus at sowing and split nitrogen and potassium into two or three side-dressings before tasselling, earthing up the rows each time.
  4. Weeds and pestsKeep the crop weed-free for the first 30–40 days and scout the whorls for fall armyworm and stem borer.
  5. HarvestHarvest when the husks have dried and a black layer has formed at the base of the kernels, then dry the grain to 13–14% moisture before storage.
