Overview
SSC 586 is an F1 hybrid biomass corn in Zinbioseed's corn seed range. As an F1 hybrid it grows vigorously and uniformly, giving an even, dependable crop.
Biomass corn is cut whole — stalks, leaves and ears — and chopped for silage. Tall, leafy hybrids give dairy and beef farms a large volume of energy-rich feed that can be stored for the dry season.

Growing guide
- SowingSow a little denser than grain corn, 1–2 seeds per hill, 3–5 cm deep, and thin to one plant per hill.
- FertiliserBiomass crops remove a lot of nutrients: apply manure at sowing and side-dress nitrogen and potassium two or three times before tasselling.
- Water and pestsKeep the soil moist through the rapid growth phase and scout for fall armyworm.
- HarvestCut the whole plant when the kernels reach the half-milk-line to dough stage (about 30–35% dry matter) and chop it finely.
- EnsilingPack the chopped forage tightly in a pit or bag, seal it airtight and let it ferment for about three weeks before feeding.
