Our strategy

Seeds for a changing climate

Farming regions across the tropics are among the most exposed to climate change. Droughts, floods, rising seas, saltwater intrusion and erratic rainfall are already shrinking farmland, lowering yields and putting harvests at risk. Our mission is to stand beside farmers as they compete in an open, global market, and we believe the answer starts with science and knowledge: better varieties, better farming practices, and expertise shared with the people who grow our food.

Our sustainable development strategy puts that belief into practice. It rests on three goals, set by our Board of Directors and carried out across the company: sustaining economic growth, building a thriving society and protecting the environment for the long term.

  • Climate-resilient varieties from our own research
  • Stronger, more secure incomes for the farmers we work with
  • Fewer inputs and lower emissions, on the farm and in our operations

The challenge

Climate change is reshaping farming

The pressures our farmers face every season are the problems our research sets out to solve: less farmland, lower productivity and crops lost to bad weather.

  • Drought and heat

Longer dry seasons and hotter days stress crops at flowering and cut yields.

  • Saltwater intrusion

Rising seas push salt water deep into coastal and delta farmland during the dry season.

  • Floods and storms

Extreme weather floods fields and can destroy a crop just before harvest.

  • Erratic rainfall

Unpredictable rains upset planting calendars and make every season harder to plan.

Three goals

Growth, people and planet, together

Every part of the business works towards the same three goals. They shape our commitments and how we measure our progress.

  1. Economic growth

Growing steadily and responsibly, so we can keep investing in research and in our partners.

    • Invest in research and high-value varieties
    • Run the business efficiently and transparently
    • Share value along the chain, from seed to market
  2. A thriving society

Creating value for farmers, consumers, our people and the communities we work in.

    • Raise farm incomes with better seed and technical support
    • Supply safe, high-quality products
    • Develop our people and support our communities
  3. A protected environment

Helping farming do more with less, and adapt to a changing climate.

    • Breed varieties that withstand drought, salinity, pests and disease
    • Cut the seed, water, fertiliser and pesticide each crop needs
    • Save energy and water in our own operations

Strategic priorities

Where we focus

  1. Breeding for climate resilience

Our breeders develop varieties that tolerate salinity, drought and heat, and shorter-duration varieties that let farmers avoid the riskiest weeks of the season. Our KCR06-1 hybrid rice, for example, withstands salinity of 4–5‰ in coastal rice-shrimp farming areas.

  2. Low-emission, resource-efficient farming

We support programmes for high-quality, low-emission rice, with varieties and practices that need less seed, water and fertiliser.

  3. Partnership with farmers

Demonstration fields, technical training and contract farming help farmers adopt new varieties with confidence and sell their harvest at a fair price.

  4. Safe, traceable products

Strict quality control from breeding to seed production, and branded farm produce that can be traced from the field to the table.

  5. People and good governance

A skilled, motivated team and transparent governance that earn the trust of customers, investors and shareholders.

How we deliver

Sustainability is everyone's job

At Zinbioseed, sustainable development is the responsibility not only of our leadership but of every member of the company.

It runs through the whole organisation, from the Board of Directors to every department:

  1. Board of Directors

Sets the sustainable development strategy for the whole company.

  2. Executive Board

Turns the strategy into specific goals for each department and subsidiary.

  3. Subsidiaries

Set their own goals, put them into practice, monitor the results and report to the parent company.

  4. Departments

Carry out sustainability activities against the plans and targets set at the start of each year.

Global goals

Contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Our strategy supports the goals where agriculture can make the biggest difference.

  • Goal 2Zero Hunger

More productive, resilient harvests that strengthen food security.

  • Goal 8Decent Work and Economic Growth

Better livelihoods for farmers and for our own people.

  • Goal 12Responsible Consumption and Production

Efficient use of farm inputs, and safe, traceable food.

  • Goal 13Climate Action

Varieties and practices that help farming adapt to climate change.

  • Goal 15Life on Land

Healthier soils and less pressure on land and ecosystems.
