- Seed typeF1 hybrid
- Typical crop cycleAbout 60β70 days from sowing to fresh harvest
Overview
MX 6 is an F1 hybrid waxy (sticky) corn in Zinbioseed's corn seed range. As an F1 hybrid it grows vigorously and uniformly, giving an even, dependable crop.
Waxy corn is a favourite market food, sold boiled or steamed by the ear. Because it is picked fresh, growers can turn a crop in about two months and sell into local markets all year.
Key features
- Soft, sticky kernels with the chewy texture buyers expect from waxy corn
- Fresh-market crop, ready about two months after sowing
- F1 hybrid vigour: strong, uniform plants and consistent produce
Growing guide
- IsolationPlant at least 200β300 m from field or sweet corn, or stagger sowing by 2β3 weeks: stray pollen makes the kernels starchy and spoils the sticky texture.
- SowingSow 1β2 seeds per hill, 3β4 cm deep, into moist, well-drained soil and thin to one strong plant per hill.
- FertiliserApply manure and phosphorus at sowing, then side-dress nitrogen and potassium at the 3β4-leaf and 7β9-leaf stages and before tasselling, earthing up the rows each time.
- Water and pestsKeep the soil moist from tasselling to silking, when drought costs the most yield, and scout the whorls for fall armyworm and stem borer.
- HarvestPick the ears 18β22 days after silking, when the silks are brown and the kernels full and milky, and sell or cook them quickly for the best texture.
